In this article I argue that in Sri Lanka the field of education has been a constant and significant element in the relationship between population and politicians, and it plays an important role in most people's experiences and understandings of politics, just as it affects their own political participation. Hence, education is not only a resource to be distributed through politics; it is a social domain that directly affects how politics itself is constituted and practiced.
