Min(d)ing the methods

Monday 7 December 2020, Department of Anthropology at the University of Copenhagen will host a 2,5 hour debate on the possibilities and possible pitfalls of decolonial methods in the social sciences.

Bjarke Oxlund, Head of Department and Professor MSO, will be moderating the debate, which will bring together people from various disciplines and universities as well as artists and activists from various associations. The debate will consist of four subsections:

  1. (When) is decolonial research a common concern?
  2. What was Denmark’s role as an imperial power and does this role lead to a particular responsibility for Danish institutions to carry out decolonial research?
  3. What is the current state of research on sexual minorities and POC in Denmark, and what is of future importance?
  4. How should the curriculum of the anthropology program balance education in decolonization and the canonized works of primarily white, male anthropologists?

The debate will take place on 7 December from 16:00-18:30 in the Christian Hansen Auditorium at CSS and on Zoom. Due to the Covid-19 situation, the space for participants IRL is unfortunately limited (first come – first served), but the Zoom room is not.
