Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton unveiled the 2012 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report during a ceremony at the U.S. Department of State on Tuesday, June 19. The TIP Report assesses governments around the world on their efforts to combat modern slavery and is considered the most comprehensive report on Human Trafficking. The 12th annual TIP Report includes narratives of 186 countries and territories. Besides Secretary Clinton, members of the diplomatic corps, nongovernmental and international organization representatives, and anti-trafficking activists attended the ceremony.
In the report Denmark is placed as a Tier 1 country, which is applied to countries whose governments fully comply with the Trafficking Victims Protection Act’s minimum standards.Yet, in the report Sine Plambech questions along with a range of local and regional experts the political will of the government to authentically tackle its trafficking problem. For instance Denmark continued to stand out as the only EU country without legal provisions entitling trafficking victims to apply for or receive a residence permit.
