PhD scholarship at the Department of Anthropology, University of Copenhagen 'The enchantment of nature'

Based on ethnographic fieldwork in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, the purpose of this project is to provide new ethnographic accounts on moments of enchantment among self-declared secular Scandinavians. The project proposes a conceptualization of experiences of enchantment as occasions of resonance with different layers of transcendence. This approach is combined with anthropological approaches to environmental change with a special focus on the ethical and political implications of practiced ecologies.

The Department of Anthropology hereby invites applications for one position as PhD student for the project on the enchantment of nature, starting from 1 April, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is limited to 3 years.

The position is part of the project Enchanted Ecologies in Scandinavia, funded by the Danish Research Agency, Culture and Communication. The succesful candidate is expected to conduct longterm fieldwork in Denmark, take active part in extended team collaboration (fieldwork, teaching, writing), and take up three months research stay at another European university.
