Article: "The Killing Seas"

Hans Lucht has contributed an Op Ed to The New York Times about migrant workers from sub-Saharan Africa who travel across the Mediterranean Sea from Libya to Italy.

The Op Ed brings attention to the political horse trading that has taken place between European political leaders and Colonel Qaddafi for Libya to control the flow of migrants in the recent past and raises concerns about the immediate future of the migrants now that Qaddafi loyalists are instead forcing migrants onto the sea.

Hans Lucht, a postdoc at the Department of Anthropology, is the author of the fort-coming book: "Darkness Before Daybreak: African Migrants Living on the Fringes in Southern Italy Today" (University of California Press).
